Rosh Chodesh has long been a time for Jewish women to gather for a wide variety of activities.

Rosh Chodesh is the name for the first day of every month in the Hebrew calendar, marked by the birth of a new moon. Rosh Chodesh has long been considered a special holiday for women. Some say that this is because the women of Israel did not offer their jewelry for the creation of the Golden Calf. God rewarded the women by forbidding them to engage in work on Rosh Chodesh and renewing their youth in the “world to come.”

Founded in 2008, the Women’s Rosh Chodesh Group of Temple Adas Israel continues to meet monthly throughout the year. It provides an opportunity for intellectual exploration of themes related to the months of the Jewish calendar and how they affect women’s lives. Since it is an ongoing group, regular attendance is encouraged, but all are welcome.

Members are involved with and participate in the development of programs during the coming year. Members are encouraged to lead and/or co-lead discussions on topics of interest that relate to the Jewish month being observed.

Our monthly gatherings offer an opportunity for fellowship, intellectual reflection and growth, support and learning.

New members are always welcome! To join our Rosh Chodesh Group, please contact the temple by phone at 631-725-0904, or by email at info@templeadasisrael.org.
