MESSAGE FROM RABBI LEON MORRIS...
Dear Friends,
We have a very promising summer ahead and I am looking forward to
reconnecting with you over Shabbat services, speakers, dinners, and
study sessions. This season (beginning Memorial Day weekend) our regular
Torah study experience will take place, as it has for several years, on
Saturday mornings at 10:30 AM. Of course, bagels and coffee are
provided. On alternate Saturday mornings, also at 10:30 AM, we will
launch a different kind of class focused on finding contemporary meaning
and relevance in the prayers of the Siddur (prayer book). Each of those
sessions will be devoted to just one single prayer. We will analyze the
words, learn a bit about the history of its development, and sing
several versions of it together. While each session will feel much like
an interactive class, we will – over the course of the summer – be
exploring the Shabbat morning service one small piece at a time. On
those Shabbat mornings, a Kiddush will follow.
One Friday evening a month will be devoted to a “town hall meeting”
exploring many of the ideas I introduced this past Yom Kippur in the
context of how to make a synagogue like ours into a House of God.
